AI for eCommerce Newsletter - 43

What if you could automatically spy on your competitors’ social media posts, analyze their visuals with AI, and log everything neatly into a Google Sheet? Like this…

Yep — that’s exactly what I built using Apify + Make + ChatGPT + Google Sheets.

🛠What’s Apify?
Apify is a web scraping and automation platform that can extract data from websites, run headless browser tasks, and monitor content at scale. Perfect for tracking your competitors, pulling product data, or automating research — like social media monitoring. It’s free up to a certain limit.
⚙️ How the Automation Works:
Scrape Instagram Posts using Apify — It pulls the latest images and post metadata from competitor accounts that you can set up ahead of time.
Parse the Data — A little technical detail here, but Apify will return its results in JSON file format. This response needs to be cleaned up and structured for the next stage.
Iterate Through Posts — Make iterates through each post in a loop.
Run Visual Analysis via GPT-4 Vision — For every image, ChatGPT describes what’s happening visually (e.g. product style, setting, color themes, trends, props, models, etc.).
Save to Google Sheets — Each row logs the image URL, caption, and visual analysis.
End result?
A living, searchable database of competitor content, fully analyzed, with zero manual work.
🔍 Why it matters for e-commerce brands:
You can EASILY reverse-engineer high-performing visual patterns and content styles, spot emerging trends, and get creative inspiration, all from your competitor’s feed.
🧠How Did I Learn to Build This?
Honestly I just asked ChatGPT.
Every part of this build — from choosing the right Apify actor, to parsing messy JSON in Make, to writing prompts that get GPT-4 Vision to behave like a creative strategist — came from a back-and-forth with ChatGPT.
Whenever something broke or didn’t make sense, I just dropped in a screenshot and asked, “What’s wrong here?” It’s like pair-building with a really smart (and patient) assistant.
This is the new way to work:
No-code tools + AI + screenshots = unfair advantage.
If you’re running a brand or leading growth, you don’t need to outsource this stuff anymore. You just need the right tools, some curiosity, and the habit of asking smart questions. The build is the easy part now.

Today’s Cool Tool is Higgsfield AI
Higgsfield’s is not just an image to AI video creator. It has a TON of preset FX/Motion Styles that can make AI Videos look like $$$. If you’re playing with AI video and still stuck on static camera angles… it’s time to level up.
Higgsfield AI doesn’t just generate video — it directs it.
With motion styles that feel straight out of a Hollywood set, you can add instant polish and movement to your clips — no gimbal, no crew, just AI doing the heavy lifting. Look at all the options:

Here are examples of 5 bold motion styles that’ll make your product feel straight out of a Nike-level spot:
🔶 Bullet Time
Think Matrix-style freeze-frame with the camera gliding around your product. Ideal for jaw-dropping reveals.
🔶 Crash Zoom In
A fast, punchy zoom that slams right into the subject. High impact, no fluff.
🔶 FPV Drone
Gives you that fast, immersive first-person flight feel. Perfect for action shots or fast-paced lifestyle scenes.
🔶 Snorricam
The camera moves with your subject, keeping the product steady while the world spins around it. Feels intense — in the best way.
🔶 360 Orbit
Full circle pan around your subject. Use this to show off. I tested this style using just this one product image that I uploaded. Take a look at.

And got back this:

How cool is that?
Now, I tested it on a few products with text on them — and yeah, it stumbled a bit. So your mileage may vary. But for clean products and lifestyle visuals? This tool absolutely shines. It’s a fast, creative way to generate video ads without ever picking up a camera.

🗞️ Buy Goofy Dog Costumes on ChatGPT (and what it means for E-Commerce) 💥🚀
ChatGPT just got a major commerce upgrade—you can now shop directly inside the chat.
No tabs. No search bar. Just a conversation.
You can type: “Find a hotdog costume for a golden retriever in California, under $30, arrives by Friday.”
And ChatGPT will respond with curated product cards—including prices, images, delivery windows, and links from platforms like Shopify, Instacart, Klarna, Amazon and more.

Why This Matters for E-Commerce
This isn’t just a UX upgrade — it’s a paradigm shift.
Shoppers aren’t searching with keywords anymore — they’re describing what they want.
Visibility depends on how well your listing answers real questions, not just keyword matching.
Context matters: location, use case, even tone can influence what gets shown.
And here’s the shift most brands aren’t ready for:
You don’t control the shelf anymore — the AI does.
What This Means for Brands
If your listings aren’t:
Structured with clean, complete attributes
Written in natural, conversational language
Aligned with specific use cases and benefits
...you may not show up in AI-first shopping experiences.
Your product might be better — but it won’t be surfaced. Your creative has to perform in context, not in isolation. And yes, “optimized for AI” is the new SEO.

What Andy Jassy Said About Alexa+
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy spent a surprising amount of time talking about AI and Alexa+ during the Q1 2025 earnings call—and it’s clear this is no small upgrade. Here’s what stood out:
🔶 "Smarter and more capable..."
“Alexa+, our next-generation of Alexa personal assistant, is meaningfully smarter... can both answer virtually any question and take actions.”
→ This isn’t about voice commands. It’s about real AI agents that act.
🔶 Early traction is real
“We’ve been rolling out... it’s now with over 100,000 users.”
→ For a soft launch, that’s a significant user base—and a strong signal of demand.
🔶 Persistent conversations are here
“You don’t have to say Alexa anymore.”
→ Expect more natural, flowing interactions. Less 'wake word,' more context.
🔶 Multi-step tasks in the real world
“She just does it.” (referring to controlling home devices, music, temperature, etc.)
→ Alexa+ is evolving into a true home assistant—capable of handling routines, not just commands.
🔶 Premium positioning
“Free with Prime, or $99/month for non-Prime customers.”
→ This isn't a freebie. Amazon sees Alexa+ as a serious AI product, worth paying for.
🔶 Amazon’s bigger AI play
“Our intention is for agents to perform wide-ranging, complex, multi-step tasks.”
→ Alexa+ is the tip of the spear in Amazon’s agentic AI ambitions.
Don’t ignore AI-fication of your listings!
