Most people missed this headline last week, but it might just be one of the biggest shifts in e-commerce visibility this year.
OpenAI has launched a pilot calledย Search Product Discoveryโand you can actually apply to get your products indexed into ChatGPTโs search layer!
Let me explain what this means.
Up until now, product discovery on ChatGPT has been anecdotal. Some brands showed up. Some didnโt. Nobody knew how or why.
This new program changes that.
If accepted, your product catalog, metadata, and A+ content get pulled into OpenAIโs proprietary retrieval system. When users search for products inside ChatGPT, especially with the new Browse and Search features, your listings can be featured in natural-language responses.
Not just linked. Not just ranked.
Featured. As part of the answer.
Think:

โCute ceramic mugs for giftingโ
โBPA-free lunch boxes with compartmentsโ

This is beyond SEO. Itโs AI-native visibility. Your content is now being read, parsed, and surfaced by LLMs, not crawled and indexed by Google. Which means:

๐ถ Structured data, descriptive titles, rich A+ content all matter more than ever
๐ถ Thereโs a whole new algorithm to optimize for, and itโs conversational, not keyword-based
So, what should you do?
How to Get Your Products Indexed (in roughly this order)
๐ถย Check your robots.txt
Make sure your site doesnโt blockย OAI-SearchBot, the crawler ChatGPT uses to find and index product content. If itโs blocked, your products wonโt appear in responses.
๐ถย Look for ChatGPT traffic in Google Analytics
ChatGPT appendsย utm_source=chatgpt.comย to all outbound links. If you're already getting visits with that tag, your content is being surfaced.

Why This Matters
This isnโt just a UI update. Itโs a fundamental change in how product discovery happens.

Hereโs the part most brands arenโt ready for:
You donโt control the shelf anymore with just keywords. The AI knows everything about your products - the good, the bad, the ugly.
That means:
Your product might be better, but less findable
Your copy has to work in context, not just on the page
Your listing is now part of a conversation, not just a search result
This is the window.

Best practice? Draft your prompt using your favorite LLM first. Start simple, then add complexity. It gives you more control over each layer of the video.

Custom GPTs Just Got an Upgrade: Now you can Pick Your Model within a GPT
Until now, building a Custom GPT meant being stuck with whatever model OpenAI gave you. No options. Just default.
That just changed.
You can nowย choose your preferred modelย โ GPT-4o, GPT-4.5, 4.1-mini, even the faster o4-mini options โ directly inside the Custom GPT builder.

Why this matters:
Now you can build faster or cheaper GPTs, or intentionally switch to a smarter reasoning model depending on the job. Great for internal tools, research bots, or lightweight utilities where speed matters more than nuance.
This is a small UI change, but a big unlock for power users.
Search used to mean typing in a few words, scanning SEO-packed pages, dodging ads, and hoping something useful showed up.
